Typically one on one in a classroom or clinic type setting.
Center-based services are often provided in a classroom or clinic type setting in which parents bring their kids in to work one on one with a trained therapist. Centers include multiple clients and therapists working at once, allowing for peer interaction, small group exercises, and experiences with multiple therapists. Working in a center also allows therapists to minimize distractions, as services are often provided in more controlled environments, which are more closely related to a school setting. This allows the individual to develop the skills they need to focus in a classroom-based setting. Center-based services are typically much more intensive than home-based services, with individuals receiving services from 15-40 hours per week.
Located in Vero Beach, Florida the Center for Autism Research and Education, or CARE, provides early intensive behavioral intervention to children ages 6 years and under diagnosed with autism or other related disabilities. Clients receive 1:1 intensive behavioral therapy from well-trained and highly qualified behavior technicians and Board Certified Behavior Analysts. At CARE we focus on teaching skills that will improve the quality of life of our clients and their families. Our approach is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which has over 30 years of research that demonstrates it is the most effective treatment for autism.
The CARE program focuses on helping improve communication and key prerequisite skills that will allow children with autism to succeed in the their natural environments such as school, home, and throughout the community. Our team of highly qualified behavioral therapists provides expert care in a caring and compassionate manner to not only the children, but their families and caregivers as well.
At CARE we not only focus on improving the child’s skills, but the parents’ as well. That is why we place a heavy emphasis on parent and caregiver training throughout the client’s time in our program. Without the help from parents and other caregivers that have a hand caring for the client, we will not be successful. It is our view that our job is not done until the child and parent demonstrate the skills they learn at CARE in the setting that matters most, the home. Thus, at CARE we incorporate a great deal of parent training both at the center and in the home into all of our goals and programming for every client.
